Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet area in the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" area. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a vast region that runs from Lachine until the west. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa in Ontario. Her first ambition was to be a dancer. However, a growth increase caused her to surpass all of the dance partners she had. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was 6 feet 1 inch tall. Once I was bigger than the size of my male companion then I slowed down. Brugel was one of many former dancers that turned to acting. Her teacher from high school was the one who pushed her into the right direction. One of her teachers suggested she audition for an annual school play. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been performing in over 60 plays, smaller and large. Most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast during Season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
